The Panamanian legislation grants the possibility to the foreigners to request the Residence if they have a Panamanian child, for it they demand the following requirements:

10. Certificate of birth of the children, issued by the Civil Registry.
11. Notarized Letter of Responsibility of the resident or national.
12. Document that proves the address (utility bill, lease contract or any other document that proves it).
Once you have met all the requirements you can apply for the Residency, you must present all the documentation mentioned above. The Residence Permit, the first time, is granted on a Temporary basis, two (2) years after having received this type of residence, you may opt for Permanent Residence, presenting the requirements previously mentioned with the exception of the Certificate of Criminal Record and the checks. It is important to know that, upon presenting all the documentation before the National Immigration Service, you will be immediately granted a processing card that is valid for six (6) month, while the National Immigration Service in Panama evaluates your application for a Residence Permit. This evaluation process may take three to five (3 - 5) months. However, the carnet provided to you guarantees that you can live in the national territory legally while the National Migration Service resolves your case.
